5 Reasons why Dark Knight Rises will not break Avengers' record

1) Doesn't appear to be a family film
Promos are promising 'Dark Knight Rises' to be a dark gritty movie, rather than a fun movie. It may excite and satisfy Nolan fans around the globe, but it is likely to keep the kids and ladies out of Cinema halls. But if the word-of-mouth about the movie is excellant (which is likely to be and was also the case with Avengers), then it may run many weeks longer and eventually kids and ladies will come to see the movie.

2) IMAX, but no 3D
Movie is being released in record number of IMAX theaters in US and around the Globe, but not in 3D. Either they are trying to take the same path as Titanic (they also released in 3D version last year, which was well received by the audience), or they simply feel that IMAX is going to give the best experience of the movie. 3D, however, is one of the biggest reasons why Avengers made the kind of money it made.

3) No real life tragedy
Heath Ledger's death gave 'Dark Knight' a huge push. It is said that every other news channel kept on bombarding tragic news of Heath Ledger's death, which created a lot of curiosity for the movie. Heath's female fans rushed to the theaters to see him last time in a movie. I know many of Nolan fans do not want to accept this, but if you ignoring the contribution of this tragic news into Dark Knight's total earnings, then you are delusional.

4) Not enough buzz for the movie
I saw Dark Knight, I loved it, and I couldn't wait for the release for its final sequel. But when I saw the promo of this movie, it felt underwhelming to be honest. I know that Nolan always try to keep his movies realistic and without special effects and CGI, but the promo made me feel that Nolan is trying to underpromise rather than creating a lot of excitement. If I search for 'Dark Knight' on twitter, then I am getting around 1-2 tweet updates every minute which is quite medicore also considering that I am fetching 5 times tweets more for 'The Amazing Spiderman' and 10 times more for 'Avengers' (which had released 2 months ago)

5) Irritating Nolanites
Nolanites, or Nolan-turds, or whatever they are called, have become a real pain in the ass for movie fans around the globe. If I am discussing about a movie online, or saying that I liked a particular movie, then I had to deal with irritating comments of some 'Dark Knight' fans too. Very often they will start comparing every movie with 'Dark Knight' and say that this movie is not as good as 'Dark Knight'. It sounds like insecurity and stupidity on their part, and if comments of various IMDB, Facebook and Twitter users are any indication, then many people are not going to watch this movie just to get back strongly at those dumb Nolanites.

Apart from these reasons, news is that this movie is banned from China. I know that 'Dark Knight' had a huge appreciation among the fans, but not it will necessarily help this movie break records.

Rowdy Rathore Review

I don't usually write movie review after one week of its release and viewing. But this time I deliberately wanted all the excitement and adrenaline to die down, and write my thoughts on the movie dispassionately. I have gone through many other reviews from critics on internet as well, and I think many of the critics just haven't understood the movie.  Yes, I am referring to the likes of Rajeev Masand according to whom there is no reason why this movie should have been made, or Anupama Chopra according to whom movie has no artistic value.

To be honest, I was really looking forward to the movie and really wanted to enjoy it no matter what critics will say. I guess this is what Indian audience did in general, and the mere fact that it has already grossed more than 100 crores in Indian alone in just 11 days, simply means that movie has high degree of appreciation all over the country.

Akshay has played three roles in this movie. First one of them is Shiva, a small time conman who falls in love with a girl from Patna and vows to mend his ways for her sake. Second one is Vikram Rathore, a non-nonsense police officer who almost lost his life in his attempt to bring justice to the village he gets posted in. Third one is Rowdy Rathore, who is Shiva only turned into a police inspector to take revenge on Vikram Rathore’s behalf.  He excelled in all these roles, and made all three of them totally distinguishable from each other. His body language and facial expressions in action scenes are top notch.  He is the heart and soul of this movie. No wonder he is called The Khiladi of Bollywood.

Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of Neeraja, a girl from Patna who comes to attend her friend’s wedding. I didn’t have too many expectations from her, as I thought she has been simply riding on Dabaang’s success whose credit only goes to Salman Khan. She does her part well though, nothing exceptional. There is whole bunch of other actors in supporting role, including a villain who has literally crossed all limits of evil ever displayed in a Bollywood movie.

Yes, movie is loud and illogical. But it has the kind of unpretentious fun we Indians has grown up watching in 90’s and early 2000s. Music is fun, hummable and enjoyable. Choreography in songs and action stunts are fantastic. Akshay’s trademark comedy scenes in first half and later part of second half as ‘Rowdy Rathore’ are not to be missed. This movie may not boast about original storyline, but has many memorable scenes in it and really delivers on entertainment front. Go watch it.

Bol Bachchan Poster Review

This poster review series is an attempt to explain the expectation a poster would generate in their audience, and possible story that poster might suggest. However, we are not going to rate the poster, only tell our opinion on what this poster reveals about the movie. Given below is the link of the poster

http://www.boxofficeindia.com/npages.php?page=shownews&articleid=4441&nCat=

Since the image is big and long (height-wise), you would be waiting for the image to load, and then look from top to bottom. While coming down from top it appears as if it is a marriage hall, the you see a text written as 'A Rohit Shetty Film' followed by title, then two Abhishek Bachchan appears in different avatars, and finally when you come down the poster you will see Ajay Devgan sitting on a chair between two Abhishek Bachchans. Movie is directed by Rohit Shetty and it going to release on July 6. It features Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, and also superstar from Comedy Circus - Krishna (usually paired with Sudesh lehri). Movie is expected to take big opening since it features the successful jodi of Ajay devgan and Rohit Shetty.

Stills in the poster

Two Abhishek Bachchan shown in the poster look quite familiar. First one on the left appears to be straight from Dostana, who is standing with left hand on his ribs and right hand (spread out) on his chest. His first two buttons of his shirt (which is darkish-pink with yellow spots) are open, wearing a wrist band and is looking straight at you as if he is measuring you up. Second one seems to be a sobber guy folding his arms to his chest. He is wearing a wrist watch, check shirt with jeans, and looks quite assured. Sitting in between, an authorititive Ajay Devgan has a 'Gada' in right hand (which is rest on his right shoulder) and his right hand (wrist watch) is resting on his lap. He is wearing a kurta-payjama (with both sleeves pulled up) and all three buttons of his shirt are open. He is wearing a mustache and yellow colored sun-glasses. From the stills in the poster, it appears as if the movie is about a Bhai (Ajay Devgan) who is preachy-type of a character with two of his Chela's (two Abhishek Bachchans).

Choice of colors

Combination of variations in Red, Orange and Yellow gives the poster's background a sort of 'Mela' kind of look. You can see bulbs in blue, orangish red, and yellow in colors. From such choices of colors, one can make out that this movie is going to be a fun-filled, color full, and message-oriented (as other Rohit Shetty movies are). Inspite of that, characters shown in the poster stood out and doesn't get lost in the background, so its a good job done by the designer of the poster. Color of Ajay Devgan's kurta-payjama is suitably dark brown in color, otherwise the poster would have looked quite different from what it is.

Text in the poster

'A rohit shetty film' in yellow at the top half of the poster followed by title 'Bol Bachchan' in the next line in bigger font. Text is aligned in the center of the poster, about 20% from the top, and it is having a quite a big text shadow, something that was quite popular in 80s. It tells that story in the movie could well be of that era. Credits are mentioned in the end, along with a sort of punch line 'Don't talk just watch July 6'. It could well mean that Bhai in this movie preach about talking less, and other characters tries to sell this irony.

Shanghai Poster Review

This poster review series is an attempt to explain the expectation a poster would generate in their audience, and possible story that poster might suggest. However, we are not going to rate the poster, only tell our opinion on what this poster reveals about the movie. Given below is the link of the poster

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTU4MTAwODQ2N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNDY3MzM3Nw@@._V1._SY317_CR3,0,214,317_.jpg

First glance at the title will make you guess what it is about. Does 'Shanghai' mean the actual city from china, or name is being used metaphorically, or does it mean something else? You see a few characters from the movie standing with their back towards each other, which tells you that there will be an one-up-manship kind of drama on screen in the movie. Movie is getting released on 18 June 2012. It features Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi, and both them are on the peak of their career.

Stills in the poster

Abhay deol and Emraan Hashmi have their back towards each other with Kalki on Emraan's side and Prasenjit Chatterjee on Abhay's side. Abhay is in a suit, wearing specs and mustache, and have a serious clerk like look on his face. Emraan Hashmi is wearing casuals, a smirth along with a mustache and is having a cigerete in his mouth. Kalki is looking shocked and Prasenjit looks as if calm about hiding something. Just below these characters there is a scene still shown in which a man is getting run over by a vehicle (having lights on).

Choice of colors

Very few colors being used. Background is shown dark to suggest that movie will have a dark murder mystrery, something related to the meaning of Shanghai. Dark shading is used aptly conveying what kind of drama movie might have. But, it is not something that will get you thinking or even talking.

Text in the poster

Only the movie name and some credits have been mentioned. Even the text used in the promos are not mentioned in the poster. But it doesn't hurt the appeal of the poster. In fact, it is difficult to imagine making this poster as appealing with some text on the poster.

This concludes the review for this poster. If you want to get any other poster reviewed, please share the name of the movie along with the link to the poster in the comments below

Rowdy Rathore Poster review

This poster review series is an attempt to explain the expectation a poster would generate in their audience, and possible story that poster might suggest. However, we are not going to rate the poster, only tell our opinion on what this poster reveals about the movie. Given below is the link of the poster

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BODkwODAzOTA3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjc4NjI2Nw@@._V1._SY317_CR4,0,214,317_.jpg

First glance at the title and poster suggests that this is an action movie featuring Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar is coming back to action after a long time which makes this movie a highly anticipated one for his fans. Movie is getting released on June 1 2012, however the poster was released a year back though Akshay is tweeting these days that shooting is still going on.

Stills in the posterAkshay is showing his punch while extending his arm. His head is tilted towards his right is having a cigrete in his mouth and relaxed/confident expression along with mustache on his face. There is no one else in the poster, so it gives an impression that this movie is solely about Akshay's character. There is absolutely no indication of story.

Choice of ColorsFrom the promo of the movie it appears that story is set in a village, so the colors are carefully chosen to make the poster looked rustic, retro and a bit faded too. Akshay's background is shown quite fiery using yellow, light orange and black making it look as if Akshay's character was in the middle of a combat in the night time. Text colors have been choosen aptly since the readability is about ok.

Text in the poster'Faulad ki Aulad' in hindi alphabets is what you notice first, along with the title off-course. It suggest that Akshay's character is a man who is built like a brick, strong willed and rowdy who will kick asses to impose his domination and just for fun. Akshay has a history with Martial Arts and he used to work in action movies till early 2000s. Given that 'Faulaad' means a man who has immense and raw power, this poster suggest that this movie is going to be a story of one man's upmanship and it is going to feature some raw, rusty and realistic action.

This concludes the review for this poster. If you want to get any other poster reviewed, please share the name of the movie along with the link to the poster in the comments below

Housefull 2 crosses 100 crore mark but IMDB score is quite low!!

Housefull 2 might have crossed 100 crore mark, but it has not only got poor reviews from critics nationwide, also its IMDB rating is mere 5.3 at this juncture. 100 Crore mark is an undeniable symbol of acceptance from its audience, especially for a movie which wasn't released on any festive occasion, didn't have any long weekend, had tough competition with IPL and regional movies, and most importantly none of the lead actors in the movie had crossed 100 crore mark before. It has entered 4th week, a rare phenomenon for movies these days, and as per exhibitors it is still going strong. But then why IMDB rating is so low??

Does this rating mean that movie isn't good?Lets analyze these ratings. 450 out of 1279 votes given to this movie is 5 or below, but if we read the reviews then 5/10 could mean a 'decent-attempt' from someone and 'rubbish' from another. This concludes an obvious that - people not only have different tastes, preference, and expectation but also different metrics, measures, experience, and expertise in reviewing/rating. Some people may review the movie for fun factor, some for its technical achievements, and some for the performance of their favorite/most-despicable actor, which means that IMDB ratings is certainly not an indication of the quality of the movie on its own.

Why do we look at these ratings? There could be number of reason why people may not like even a highly rated movie like 'The Dark Knight' too. Off course we all know that, but then why do we look at these ratings? Some of us see these ratings to just solidify our gut feeling as we probably would have made our mind (that we want to watch this movie or not) before and some of us judge the movie's quality on the basis of its IMDB rating and then decides whether to watch it or not. There could be other reasons as well, but what does IMDB ratings mean on its own?

What does these ratings mean?Important question indeed! These ratings are mere indication of 'X number of visitors on this website shares common taste in this movie to Y extent', with X being the number of votes and Y being its final rating. People who called this movie a trash would argue that movie deserves low rating, but others who have loved it would certainly disagree. 'The Dark Knight' got more 17 thousand votes of 1 out of 10 but critics gave it excellant ratings. Should we just ignore these 1's because of our prejudice and say ratings from these people don't mean much, just because we don't agree with them? Because the same argument would apply for 'Housefull 2' as well!!

Housefull 2 Review

First of all, take a bow, Mithun Chakraborty!! Amidst all the hilarious situations happening around him, he managed to give a stupendus performance with so much grace, which gave more meaning to the madness that was surrounding him. He excelled as a strong headed, down to earth, and no-nonsense man of principals.

Jai (Shreyas) who wants to avenge his father from Chintu Kapoor, called his friend (Ritesh deshmukh) to help him out, so that he will ask for Chintu Kapoor's daughter's (Asin) hand and then reject her. Ritesh is too scared of his father (Mithun Chakraborty) to indulge in this, so they have to involve a professional conman (John Abraham), but they send him to a wrong house (Daboo Kapoor) by mistake. Now they have to involve another professional conman (Akshay Kumar), who is considered to be the biggest Kamina of UK. Both conmen are paid well enough to do the job, and they are progressing well in their task, until they came to know that they have to confront Ritesh's father.

No one can play conman better than Akshay, and he just blew the roof off with his performance in this movie. His character not only anchors the movie, but also move story forward. John is playing a character he has never played before, and he did better than I expected him to. Shreyas and Ritesh are real pleasure to watch, they do their part well. Asin excels among other female leads of the movie, followed by Jacqueline who managed to give some expressions this time. Other two heroines were just about serviceable, nothing worth mentioning about them. Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor had a terrific chemistry between them, and they stole first half an hour before Akshay took control. Boman Irani did his part well, but his role wasn't much. Johny lever has done it all in Bollywood Comedy, but it is still a pleasure watching him pull off a role (similar to Paresh Rawal's role in 'Haseena Maan Jayegi') and do better. Chunky pandey played the same 'Akhiri pasta' and his scenes are hilarious. Ranjeet (YES, good old Ranjeet) has two scenes in the movie, and he made an impact you would like to remember.

All the songs are entertaining and enjoyable. 'Anarkali Disco Chali' and 'Pappa toh band bajaye' simply tore the house down. What brilliant choreography and what brilliant lyrics. Almost felt like singing 'Do you know' song while watching it. Don't remember when I last felt like this. 'Right now' is more erotic than it looks on youtube and TV.

Housefull 2 tickle your funny bone if you have it. Trailers are indicative enough that you need to keep your brains at home to watch this movie. If you do wanna use them, use it appreciate the choreography in the songs and the way Akshay and Mithun had made their part believable, which could have easily looked silly. If you are an Akshay kumar fan or even Ritesh's fan, then don't miss this movie. If you don't like Akshay's movies, then may be you should wait till next weekend to get more consensus on this movie.

Why ETC is campaigning against Housefull 2?

Housefull 2 is slated for 5th April 2012 release. It is a sequel to its SUPER HIT predecessor of 2012 Housefull. Its songs are already out, they are not only looking good, but also doing very well on youtube as well. There is some anticipation for the movie since it is Akshay's movie coming after a long time, almost 6-7 months of Desi Boys. However, ETC doesn't seem to be excited as much, and looks to be in no mood to promote the movie.
Have you ever wondered why you don't see any Housefull 2 promotional videos on ETC channel? Almost every other music and bollywood news channel is showing Housefull 2's song videos and making videos, but ETC doesn't. Instead, ETC is trying to run down the movie by showing surveys that public would rather like to watch IPL at home rather than watching Housefull 2. People in those survey video are referring to 'Housefull' as a flopped brand, and giving some distasteful remarks against the movie.
This is not the first time ETC is trying to sabotage Akshay Kumar movie. They did it with 'Chandni Chownk to China', 'Tees Maar Khan', 'Patiala house', etc. It is no secret that Akshay doesn't give a crap about what critics have to say about his movies. He literally told this to Rajeev Masand (CNN IBN), Komal Nahta, and many others on their face. His movies are about entertainment and a lot of wonderful moments that you can take with you home after watching the movie. Sajid Khan shares this school of thought with Akshay, which explains why critics don't take it easy on Sajid either.
This campaign from ETC to run down Housefull is certainly going to hit ETC's credibility, at least for Akshay's fans. Also, if the movie gross big, then ETC is going to have egg on its face for not being successful in their campaign
